Hermes Agent Lands on rabbitOS, Desktop Gains Cloud Discovery
Nous Research shipped two updates on July 10 that extend Hermes Agent's reach across hardware and cloud infrastructure: Hermes Agent is now preinstalled on rabbitOS, and Hermes Desktop gained the ability to discover and connect to cloud agents.
The rabbitOS preinstall announcement hit 1,337 likes and 124,540 impressions in its first 24 hours. This puts Hermes Agent on dedicated hardware - rabbit's r1 device runs a custom Android-based OS, and having Hermes Agent as a system-level component means the agent can access device sensors, networking, and local storage without going through a browser or desktop app.
On the same day, Hermes Desktop got cloud agent discovery:
The desktop update - 775 likes, 74,317 impressions - means a user can sign into Nous Portal from the desktop app and any active cloud instances appear automatically. No manual endpoint configuration.

The interaction model is a hardware button press, voice command, task dispatch. No app to open, no chat window to type into.
@tamsi_besson posted about switching to Hermes agents from another setup, confirming the desktop experience works in practice (13 likes, 638 impressions).
Model Selection and Cost
@s1rozha_ framed the model-selection question through a cost lens. The argument: for agent workloads, a model you can afford to leave running may beat a stronger model you ration.
The setup shown uses Hermes as the agent shell with Grok 4.5 as the workhorse model underneath - a model hierarchy where the cheaper model handles routine tasks and the agent routes to a stronger model only when needed.
Plugin: Agent Install Monitor
@chilly5476 released Agent Install Monitor, a Hermes plugin that tracks package installs, Docker pulls, Git clones, and other system-level changes the agent makes. The plugin records what was installed, when, and by which session - useful for multi-session setups where different agents may modify the same machine.
Two other signals from the day: @SmelterLabsai noted 5 substantial commits in the past 24 hours including a fix for desktop prompt session context routing, and @HermesAgentTips highlighted the Unbroker integration for data-broker opt-out workflows.
The day's theme: Hermes Agent is moving from a terminal-and-browser tool to a system that spans dedicated hardware, cloud instances, and desktop apps. The rabbitOS preinstall and desktop cloud discovery are infrastructure-level changes, and the community is already building on top of them.
